Jared E. Lloyd, Sensei

Jared Lloyd, Sensei is the owner and head instructor at Lloyd’s Okinawan Karate in Wendell, NC.  Jared began his martial arts training in 1993 at the age of 10 years old in Okinawa Kenpo Karate Kobudo (Odo Lineage).  He achieved the rank of 5th degree black belt under Charles Mann, Hanshi in Zebulon, NC.  After training for some time in Okinawa Kenpo,  Jared decided to deepen his studies by attending various seminars across NC and other states.  Jared met Bill Hayes, Shinshi, 9th Dan of Shobayashi Ryu at a Shobayashi-Kan gasshuku.

Bill Hayes, Shinshi who goes by “Old Student” is a first generation student of the late Eizo Shimabukuro, Hanshi, 10th Dan, and Director of the Shobayashi-Kan Kenkyu Kai.  Hayes, Shinshi had several tours as a Marine during Vietnam that not only stationed him on Okinawa, Japan but also allowed him to closely train with his teacher, O’Sensei, Eizo Shimabukuro.   Due to his dedication to not only his teacher’s art but his teacher as a whole, he became a senior student of O’Sensei. Shinshi Hayes continues to transmit what he learned and guide those who are receptive to delving deeper in Okinawan karate as was taught on the island in the 60’s and 70’s.

After his training at the gasshuku, Lloyd, Sensei was amazed by what he felt, saw and experienced. He knew that Hayes, Shinshi was someone who was rare, unique and special and wanted to continue his studies under his direction.  Jared continued to travel to train with the Shobayashi-Kan over several years and became a full member of the research society in November of 2016.  Lloyd, Sensei continues to travel and deepen his studies in Shobayashi Ryu under the direction of Bill Hayes, Shinshi and other senior members of the Shobayashi-Kan.
